Amy Geddes
Musician & educator Amy Geddes is widely recognised as a leading light in the world of contemporary Scottish Fiddle. Growing up in Galloway Amy immersed herself in traditional music, song and dance, but has gone on to forge a career exploring musical genres whilst remaining true to her roots.
Amy has now settled in Pathhead, Midlothian and is an active member of the Pathhead Music Collective with fourteen fellow local professional musicians. Amy plays fiddle and viola, sings and step dances.
As a founder member of Pathhead Music Collective, Amy was part of the driving force that led to them receiving a coveted Creative Places Award in 2013 and the ensuing creativity and chaos. She is also a member of the Scottish Government Music Cross Party Group and the Board of the Traditional Music Tutor Training Network.
Amy was nominated tutor of the year at the Trad Awards in 2015 and runs her own teaching business called Fyne Fiddles.
She published her first book – a collection of lessons - in Winter 2017, and in summer 2018, curated a cross-generational community music project, the Lauland Big Tune Machine, for the Edinburgh International Festival.
Amy performs and records regularly as an artist in her own right, with Dean Owens, and in bands. She is currently part of the trio Grim Twinkle.
Amy participates in several types of dancing - mainly within the Scottish idiom - and can teach ceilidh and Scottish step dancing. She is also a dance caller.
