Deiseil: Dancing in Time: Identity, Community and Belonging

Following Friday's performance of Deiseil: Dancing in Time, director Gerry Mulgrew and musician Amy Geddes will host a discussion about the themes of the show on Saturday 5th September at 11am.
They'll be joined by musician and dance-caller David Francis and ethnologist Alyne Jones to explore how loss and resurgence of traditions can shape our society, and how the story of stepdance and its music reflects wider questions of identity, community and belonging.

Alyne Jones is an Ethnological Consultant and Practitioner based in Galloway. She advises organisations and individuals and has created and collaborated on many projects over the years, in the 20th and 21st Centuries.
David Francis is a songwriter, lyricist, storyteller, guitarist, and dance-caller. He recently retired as Director of Scotland’s network of traditional music organisations, the Traditional Music Forum. David is on the board of Deiseil Airson Dannsa.
Gerry Mulgrew is a multiple award winning director and co-founder of Communicado Theatre Company. Gerry co-created Deiseil with Amy and Alison as well as directing the show.
